The outdoor track season kicked into high gear for Hinckley Finlayson this week , with both the boys and girls track teams leaving a mark at major events. The boys team traveled to the sub-section meet on Tuesday night, with the boys finishing 4th in the 12-team field. The girls team finished 9th overall while the boys team finished 6th overall and although neither of the teams moved on to sections, 12 individuals are continuing on and hoping to make it further in the competition. The teams that moved on were Boys 4x800m Relay (Brock Bjerke, Josey Olson, Caleb Olson, Cedric Lafave), Cedric Lafave - 1600m Run, Edward Roubinek - 300m Hurdles, Kolby Fox - High Jump, and Josie Barstad - Shot Put and Discus In track, there are so many individualized events that the kids have to be pretty self-motivated.That is exactly what the jaguars did, and they helped each other get motivated so they could do their best in every race. This season has been great for the HFHS track team. The boys varsity placed first at a meet, this hasn't happened in a long time this is when you know all there hard work paid off, and has continued to pay off. The meet's top performance came from Cedric LaFave, who broke the school record for the 1 mile with a time of 4:37:45 Even though the team works hard, they still have fun with lots of games and different activities. One of the highlights of the season was definitely coaches relay, and cedrics record breaking. This got everyone excited about what was going to come in the following meets. "I think we are becoming a well-rounded team," Kunze said. "We are scoring in as many events as possible and showing that it truly is a team effort. ... I am proud of this team each day for their attitudes and efforts."
