On Wednesday, several athletes from the HFHS track team went to sections at St. John’s University. The athletes had a solid showing, most notably with Cedric LaFave breaking his previously held school record by just over a second. Josey Olson, Edward Rubinek, Caleb Olson, Cedric LaFave, Kolby Fox, Josie Barstad, and Brock Bjerke all participated in the section track meet. There are many different events at sections; the activities that HFHS students competed in were, 4 x 800, open 800, 300 hurdles, shot put, 1600 (mile), and 4 x 400. Cedric broke the school record twice, one record was held by himself. He broke Jeremiah Letourneau’s record last Wednesday at subsections. Letourneau had a mile time of 4:37.56. Cedric beat Letourneau with a time of 4:37.35. He beat his own record by a little over a second on Wednesday, he had 4:36.5. Josie Barstad a highschool graduate, does the events Shot Put and Discus Throw. She did not advance to state, but was happy to have set a personal record of 36’ 3 3/4 .” “We have a very tough section and I was hoping to go to State, but it didn’t happen because we have some amazing girls who throw, “ she says. This year Josie hurt her knee and she said that also affected her performance. Josie has had a rather successful high school career in track. Competing the best of her ability throughout high school, Josie medaled and placed every year. This year was her fourth time at sections. With so many driven athletes, the HFHS track team are looking forward to a strong next season.
