By Raechel Painovich Anyone else really missing their spring sport? Well I am. With the global pandemic currently happening, we have potentially lost the ability to play spring sports this year. I know myself, as well as many others students, are really missing their spring sports and as a 10th grader I really miss hanging out with my teamates and being able to practice with them everyday. I can’t imagine being a senior during this time.
It just doesn’t seem fair. I know we need to take precautions to combat Covid-19, but that doesn’t change the fact that we are without our favorite sports and people during these times. On a lighter note, if you really think about, on the softball field we are outside, all 9 positions are 6 feet apart plus we are all wearing gloves and masks! In reality however, all I, as I’m sure many others as well, want is for my team to be back together and practicing. But in order to level the curve in expontential growth of the corona virus cases in MN, it is best for all of us to stay home and stay in touch. With all of this spare time on our hands, what are we to do with it? I have been trying to go to the field as often as possible to keep up on my skills and keep enjoying the sport even without my teamates. I have also been occsionally running and working out to keep myself busy. But in the end I am just trying to cope with the feeling that I might not play softball this year. I really hope that we are able to get back on the field this year and do what we all love as a team. As I’m sure many of my peers are feeling the same way, it is crucial for us as students and student-athletes to stay home in hopes of retruning to the field soon. In the meantime, head out to the backyard and practice your swing, jumps or just enjoy the outdoors. There are many things to do in Hinckley that allow for the mandated six-feet apart instructions. Right off of I-35 is Banning State Park, a beautiful location to get some air and hike around and in Minnesota we might as well get out and take advantage of the land of 10,000 lakes. Or just stay home and relax, but whatever it is you are doing, stay conscious of the rapid spread of Covid-19, stay safe and enjoy yourself!
