The yearly canoe trip was taken last Wednesday 9/25, where a total of 20 students went to the St. Croix river and canoed down the river. Mr. Grimm’s advanced phy ed class had taken the day off to spend their school day out in nature. The weather was perfect for canoing at around 60-70 degrees. They started out on the Namekogan River northeast of Danbury, WI, and finished at Riverside Landing on the St. Croix River, just north of Danbury. It was a 15 mile canoe trip that was accomplished in just over 5 hours. Mr. Grimm had said that the canoe trip was great for “getting the students out on the river and giving some of them their first canoeing experience.” All of the kids left school at 8:15 am and got to Pardun's Canoe Rental in Danbury at 9am. They loaded the canoes and they brought us up the river to our starting point. They were all on the river in their canoes by 10:00am and got to the final destination at 3:00pm. So the total time on the river was 5 hours. Many students had commented on what a great experience the trip was and how much fun it was. Throughout the trip they paddled down the river, stopped for lunch along the way and grilled some hotdogs and brats, then continued down the river to their final destination. They battled some rapids and fast currents, but some students were able to see a black bear and bald eagles. All around the students that went on the canoe trip really enjoyed the atmosphere and being able to spend the day outside. Many students commented that their favorite part about the trip was that they got to see fireworks. Mr. Grimm also enjoyed bringing the students canoeing as for some of them it was their first time. To conclude, the canoe trip was a wonderful experience for many students.
