2/26/2020 0 Comments Girls Hockey All Star GameLast Tuesday 2/25 a sophomore by the name of Raechel Painovich got chosen to participate in the K1 girls of the north All Star game. This is a great honor because only the top 40 girls in northern Minnesota compete at this game. The game was at Northwoods arena in Cloquet and the game began at 5:00. This game is of extreme importance to many girls who want to play college hockey as many scouts attend this game. Raechel played on this team last year as a 9th grader and has been selected for the second time. Raechel’s team, the Fire faced off against the opposing team the Tempest, after the first period the game was at high intensity and was tied 1-1. Both teams were even and the style of play was a lot faster than a regular high school game. With both teams giving all their effort the game ended in a 2-2 tie. Which meant that overtime was to begin next. It was 5-5 on for five minutes and then if no one scored it was to be 4 on 4 for five minutes and then 3 on 3. But unfortunately the game ended shortly into the 1st overtime and one of the players on the Tempest team skated right around the Fire’s defense and deeked the goalie to win the game. One of Raechel’s teammates played on the other team and was very competitive with Raechel making it a very fun game. Raechel says that this event is always a fun experience because she gets to meet new teammates and gets college scouts to watch her play. Raechel hopes to play in this game again next year as a junior and later on play college hockey.
