Riverside landing was the destination for the Advanced Phy. Ed. students on Monday, September 24th. The class headed up to Danbury where they would meet Pardun Canoe Rental to begin their journey to the Namekagon River. At the end of the day they would have travelled nine miles down the Namekagon River which then flowed into the St. Croix River. So the group of students grabbed a paddle, hopped in their canoes and began their day of paddling. They began at the Namekagon Trail Landing and made their way down the river. The weather was perfect and the sights were amazing. As described by some of the students, the trees are in the middle of changing colors so the color on the banks of the rivers were full of various greens, oranges, yellow and reds. The river was also moving very fast according to teacher chaperone, Mr. Grimm, who was very surprised at the fact that the group was able to paddle 9 miles down the river in only 2 hours, the fastest he has ever seen. The group, upon arriving at Riverside Landing, started a small fire for them to cook their lunch over. They ate hot dogs, brats, and s'mores. While they waited for their bus to come pick them up they all sat around the fire talking and laughing. After a little over an hour of waiting at the landing, the Pardun Canoe Rental bus arrived, signifying the end of their journey. The group had lots of fun paddling down the Namekagon and St. Croix River, and as one student said, “it definitely beats a day of sitting in desks at school.”
