On October 16, the HFHS Cross Country team ended their regular season. During that time the girls varsity team placed first in conference and Cedric Lafave moved on to state. After the girls celebrated their victory the boys celebrated with second place in conference; the boys season was a fierce competition. The seniors, Abby Painovich, Christeva Perrotti, Johnny Kordiak, Anders Prater, and Dylan Mans ended their season at the Pine City meet on that victorious day. “They bring a level of maturity, leadership, responsibility, and are tremendous role models for our younger runners and anyone in the school. All of them know how to balance being a student and an athlete. All of them know what level of work is required to set the high goals they set for themselves… Overall, this was my favorite season of coaching ever. I felt all of my athletes worked their butts off everyday, set high goals, and worked to achieve them.” says blissful coach Linden. At St. Olaf college Cedric Lafave ran his last meet of the season. Although he had an injury to his arm muscle he ran his heart out and finished with a time of 18:42 and placed 160th overall! Unfortunately he did not advance, but only about two runners that competed in the state meet move onto nationals. This season the team brought everythng they had to each and every meet and practice. There were many things other people noticed but one that stuck out was the drive every single Jaguar team had. They won the first girls' Great River Conference championship in cc history, they won 7 of the 20 all-conference sensations and they sent a runner to state. While the boys GRC champs this year, Pine City, are graduating their fastest runner, the jags are graduating their third. This year the teams had a total of 30 runners, five are graduating, and Linden hopes we can have five or more come out next year. The jags went into the season knowing their chances were very good to win GRC championships for both boys and girls varsity teams . The girls accomplished this feat, coming out on top 33 to 39 against Pine City who took second. The boys did not win the conference meet but they did improve from 4th place last year to 2nd this year. Congratulations also to all those who earned some individual recognition; Cedric Lafave who competed at state, Girls Varsity who took home the GRC champs. Cedric, Anders Prater, Brock Bjerke, Reese Hartl, Raechel Painovich, Ava Anderson, and Sophie Hodena who were all-conference runners. The team is always looking for more runners, come on out next year and run with them! Congratulations on a very successful season for all those who participated and a huge thanks to all their supporters!
