The Jaguar Football team came out strong against the Braham Bomber last Friday night but were unable to their offensive push. The team sustained many injuries and fatigue due the hot and heavy air under the friday night lights. They only allowed one touchdown early in the first half but were able to hold them off until halftime, where the score paused at 0-8. The Jags came out vengeful in the start of the second half, forcing a fumble which was later turned over to Bombers. Not long after, Braham extended their lead to 0-20. The jags were not done yet. They fought back, making the score 20-8 but there was not enough time left on the clock to earn back their deficit. The final score was 20-8, but not for a lack effort- Coach Hopkins remarked, “the jaguars played without some key players tonight, but the players that stepped up did a tremendous job! The jaguars played as a team tonight and improved from last game.” Over the past week, the Jaguars have been working their execution of their plays on both offense and defensive. They are feeling more confident tonight as they feel they have “played better each week at certain positions” and tonight they feel it will all come together. They have been working very hard to minimize the amount of their errors on the field and to use their strengths to their full advantage. This is what Coach Hopkins had to say on the topic: “We will need to limit the mistakes and play a full game on both sides of the ball. We played well enough to have a chance last week, this week we have to take care of business and increase that chance!” The Jaguar football team has also seen growth since last friday. They have seen the players’ ability to to step up and play their hearts out. Coach Hopkins commented that “each week this young team is gaining valuable experience and improving.” There is no doubt that the Jaguars’ season has started off slow but Coach Hopkins is proud of the way his boys have played, the way they have improved mentally and the confidence they have achieve throughout the season. Although last week’s game in particular was a tough loss for the Jags, they think tonight’s game will be more even matched with a team similar to their own- having graduated a large senior class and are rebuilding- Deer River will a good test for the Jags. Taking into account all of this, the Jaguar football team will be ready to compete tonight against the Deer River Warriors at 7pm and Berquist Field. Come out and support you Jaguar football team by wearing anything that is Hawaiian to the game as that is tonight’s theme!
