9/14/2018 0 Comments Jaguar Football Takes on BrahamBy Abby Painovich
Last Friday night, the Jaguar football team traveled to Mesabi East where they battled all the way through the game that they lost 38-0. The team put up a great effort but had several tough breaks and too many penalties which resulted in a loss for the jaguars. Tonight, the team is hoping to end their two game losing streak and seek revenge on the Braham Bombers. The Bombers have ended the Jagaurs’ season in the conference something for three years in a row now. They, however, are looking to change that. The Jags are excited to be back out on the field, and not just any field, but their home turf. Now without the two hours bus rides and with the home crowds, the Jaguars are ready to get their season back on track Friday night.. Coach Brad Hopkins commented that, “playing a conference rival is always exciting with conference and section seedlings riding on the game.” He is expecting to pull of a win tonight, regardless of the teams history against Braham. Senior lineman, Conor Romans, also commented that he as well as the team “is confident heading into this game.” The team will focus on their defensive abilities and srtategies tonight as they have been working at “find(ing) ways to attack the weakness of Braham’s defense and trying to be creative and unpredictable on defense,” according to Coach Hopkins. All games are important, however, tonight’s game will be especially important because winning would not only not only change the momentum of their season but would act as a confidence booster iven that Braham is a rival as well as a conference and section team. Coach Hopkins also added that “this game could have big implications on the conference and playoffs ahead.” The team has been improving each week, gaining experience, and even though it is early in the season, they feel they have what it takes. In order to walk away from the game with a “W”, Coach Hopkins told us that they will need to limit their own errors and capitalize on Brahams. He continued to say, “we have made errors in the last games which turned out to be game changing mistakes... we need to limit those and we will be very competitive.” However, strtatey is only half of the game. The other half will come from teamwork and communication. Conor Romas says that they will, “need to continue to work together as a team on and off the field” in order to win games. With all this in mind, the Jaguar football team will head out onto field with a full head of steam, and take the Bombers by storm. The game will begin at 7pm and it will be a blackout. So wear your black to show your school pride and come out to cheer on your football boys!
