“I am really looking forward to getting them good points this year,” says Junior knowledge bowler Jacob Barstad, The Knowledge Bowl team officially began practice this week and they are preparing for their first meet of the season on December 20th in North Branch. Last season the Jaguars advanced past the sub-region and they are looking to do that and more this year. Junior history and geography specialist Kyle Wagenius says, “We are looking to get even farther than we got last year.” The key to doing that Kyle added, “to assemble the teams so that we can cover any subject brought to the table.” The team graduated five knowledge bowlers last year but they are not lacking in experience, The team this year boasts a plethora of experience, The returning Juniors and Seniors all have at least one year of Varsity experience under their belt. We asked Mythology expert Jacob Barstad about the strategy he has developed through years of Knowledge Bowling and he told us that on nights before a meet he likes to, “stay up to like 1 a.m. scrolling through instagram or watching TV on Netflix, and then get up just in time to get to the bus and then sleep on the bus ride to the meet. If the opportunity arises I like to down a lot of glasses of orange juice before each round.” Versatility is going to play a major role in the team's success this year, because a team can only have four members at a table at one time each person needs to be versed in more than one subject, so the the team is working on getting familiar with and as Josey Olson said, “gaining that knowledge” in as many subjects as possible. Josey went on to tell us that to be a successful Knowledge Bowler that you must be good at “inferring things, and drawing conclusions quickly because you need to make good educated guesses.” With all this said, the Knowledge bowl team should be in for a very successful season. They will have a large group of experienced veterans who know what it takes to buzz quick and get those points.
