11/21/2017 0 Comments A Wednesday To Remember For the first time in a very long time Hinckley-Finlayson schools will have the Wednesday before thanksgiving off. This is the first occurrence of such a day off since almost all the teachers can remember. Except Mr. Grice, the veteran teacher claims he has had the Wednesday before Thanksgiving day off in his teaching career. In honor of this extremely rare phenomenon, we -at the Jaguar Journal- wanted to know what the teachers and students thought about their additional day off.
The Initial reaction was very positive, almost everyone we interviewed was thrilled at the idea of an extra day off. The extra time to prepare for thanksgiving and spend time with family seemed to be a recurring theme. We asked some students and staff what they would be doing with this extra time. Mrs. Pollock said with her free time she will be getting a haircut and taking Mr. Kreger to a movie. Ninth grader Jada Oquist said, “I’m staying home and get caught up on homework and catch up on sleep.” We asked Mr. Grice what he was going to do with his extra day, given this wasn’t his first time he knew exactly what he was going to do. He said, “I’ll be picking up my two year-old grandson and we will be preparing food getting the house ready for thanksgiving.” Ms. Anderson said, “I am going to spend time with my family and go to a concert in Duluth.” We asked students if they had any family traditions they’d like to share. Eighth grader Ava Anderson said, “My family likes to get together play games and brag about who got the biggest deer.” Brice Mitchell (8th grade) said his family likes to have lutefisk as the main meal. It appears that the people from Hinckley-Finlayson have lots of great things to do with their extra day off. We hope everyone enjoys their extra day, and from everyone at the Jaguar journal, Happy Thanksgiving.
