2/5/2018 0 Comments 4th Annual HFHS Talent ShowBy Abby and Raechel Painovich Yesterday afternoon, Hinckley Finlayson High School hosted their annual snow week talent show. The turnout was good, with twelve acts. Starting with a brilliantly choreographed dance routine by Cheyanne Blodgett and finishing with the staff performing “Don't Stop Believing”, the show kept everyone on the edge of their seats.
Cheyanne Blodgett started off the show with an upbeat dance routine to the tune of “No Promises.” Up next was Dion, who kept the audience alive with his theory on why the world is flat and finishing on jokes that made everyone in the vicinity laugh along with him. To follow up these performers were three individual vocalists who left their listeners in awe. One of these performers was Courtney Scarborough, a senior at Hinckley Finlayson High School. When asked why she chose to participate in the talent show, she responded, “I like being able to do what I love and this gives me that opportunity.” Courtney sang “Remedy” by Adele which, as her voice rang throughout the auditorium, captured everyone’s appeal. Next up was a battle between Kaden Stensrud and Ameed Abuhamed; a rap battle. Ameed started it off with his own rendition of “Man’s Not Hot” by Big Shaq to which Kaden responded with a piece of his own. After this battle, to add some action to the show, Russell Larson strode onto the stage to perform a front flip. Then, our very own Snow Week King, Michael Affeldt, better known as Big Mike, entered the stage with his very own lyrics to the instrumental, “That I’m Dreaming.” To end the students’ performance, Anders Prater took to the stage to display his “human jump rope” talent. To conclude the whole show, several staff members appeared on stage to perform “Don’t Stop Believing.” With Mrs. Anderson, Mr. Richter, Joe France, Mr. LaFond, Ms. Johnson, Mr. Hogberg, and Ms. Sikkink all contributing to the production, whether it be singing, playing guitar or even the xylophone, they left the audience singing along and in a standing ovation. In short, the talent show was filled with many talented students and teachers that took the stage by storm, leaving the audience in awe. A few of these student participants would like to share some advice about partaking in the talent show. When asked why you should sign up for the talent show next year, Cheyanne Blodgett answered,” It gets you out of your comfort zone!” And Courtney Scarborough said,” It is always a blast and something to remember forever.” This year’s Snow Week Talent Show, all acts considered, delivered an outstanding talent show that will be remembered by much of the student body at HFHS.

2/2/2018 0 Comments Senior Boys TriumphantBy Anders Prater This Wednesday the Hinckley-Finlayson High School hosted their annual dodgeball qualifiers. The tournament is comprised solely of students, and the winner plays the teachers on Friday. This year there was a wide variety of teams but the squad that came out on top was the Corn and Clover Kids, made up of all senior boys they were the favorite going into the tournament. The senior boys did not climb the ranks as easily as expected, they were challenged greatly in their second game against the Raw Dodgers-a junior boys team- the match was two on two with only Travis Visser and Ryan Stafne left alive in the close victory.
We asked Travis his thoughts on the tournament and his expectations going into it. Visser said, “We went in with one thing on our minds, winning.” When asked if they were challenged by any team in particular he said, “The junior boys were good and they had the best chance to beat us, other than that we were very confident.” The Corn and Clover Kids went into the last game against a unexpected finalist, the Minotaur Hunters: a motley crew of freshmen led by Zach Watrin. Zach spoke to us about his team’s unexpected finals appearance, he said, “We definitely didn’t expect to go that far but once we got to the final game we thought, anything can happen.” The Minotaur Hunters worked the senior boys all the way down to a two on two where Ryan Stafne and Travis Visser prevailed for their team again. Travis Visser said the Corn and Clover Kids are going to go for Linden first in the teacher student game and, “if we can get him out I think we’ll be fine.” |
