2/2/2018 0 Comments Senior Boys TriumphantBy Anders Prater This Wednesday the Hinckley-Finlayson High School hosted their annual dodgeball qualifiers. The tournament is comprised solely of students, and the winner plays the teachers on Friday. This year there was a wide variety of teams but the squad that came out on top was the Corn and Clover Kids, made up of all senior boys they were the favorite going into the tournament. The senior boys did not climb the ranks as easily as expected, they were challenged greatly in their second game against the Raw Dodgers-a junior boys team- the match was two on two with only Travis Visser and Ryan Stafne left alive in the close victory.
We asked Travis his thoughts on the tournament and his expectations going into it. Visser said, “We went in with one thing on our minds, winning.” When asked if they were challenged by any team in particular he said, “The junior boys were good and they had the best chance to beat us, other than that we were very confident.” The Corn and Clover Kids went into the last game against a unexpected finalist, the Minotaur Hunters: a motley crew of freshmen led by Zach Watrin. Zach spoke to us about his team’s unexpected finals appearance, he said, “We definitely didn’t expect to go that far but once we got to the final game we thought, anything can happen.” The Minotaur Hunters worked the senior boys all the way down to a two on two where Ryan Stafne and Travis Visser prevailed for their team again. Travis Visser said the Corn and Clover Kids are going to go for Linden first in the teacher student game and, “if we can get him out I think we’ll be fine.”
