The Jaguars played their last regular season game last Thursday against the Pequot Lakes Patriots. The Patriots beat the Jaguars in a close game last year and the Jaguars were hungry for revenge. Both teams played a fast-paced style which made for an exciting matchup, the Patriots attacked the basket very well in the first half, which ended with Pequot Lakes up 36-34. The Jaguars kept up the pace in the second half wearing down the Patriots and drawing tons of fouls. The Jaguars took advantage of the opportunity, getting 26 points from the free throw line. Coach Dan Kreft commented on the second half improvements the Jaguars made saying, "Our guys did a nice job defensively in the second half at taking away their drives to the hoop, and we limited their scoring opportunities because of this. We were also efficient in running our half-court offensive sets. We attacked the basket and forced Pequot to work really hard to defend us. It showed in the fact that we shot 48 free throws." The Jaguars finished the game up 80-65. Travis Visser led the Jaguars with 29 points and 13 rebounds. Then the next night, Jaguars went to Isle on Friday night to take on the Huskies. The Jags won 83-45 but it wasn't as lopsided in the first half. The Jags looked tired from their intense game the night before, coming out flat. They slowly got into a rhythm, going into the half up 48-30. The Jaguars came out of the break ready to play, their second-half defense was impressive, they forced an abundance of turnovers and held the Huskies to only 15 second-half points. We asked coach Dan Kreft what he thought about the Jaguars performance at Isle and he said, "We had a slow start against Isle, but the guys eventually found their groove going and built a big lead. We moved he ball well, and a lot of guys contributed in scoring and rebounding. Our defense overall was good, especially our full-court presses, we forced Isle into 30 turnovers." The Jaguars remain undefeated in the Great River Conference and they have two regular season games left, both of which are conference games. The Jags will travel to Rush City on Friday, February 23.
