By Anderson Prater The Jaguars started their week by visited the Mora Mustangs Monday night. It was a very competitive game, the teams played each other evenly the entire first half. At the break, the Jaguars were up 34-30. Mora did a nice job containing Hinckley's leading scorer, Travis Visser allowing him only 5 points from in the first half. The second half was just as close, it became a shootout between the Anders Prater and Mora guard Cal Wright who went back and forth putting their team in the lead. As time wound down the Jaguars used their small lead to force their hand, Mora had to foul. The Jaguars made their free throws to seal the 76-70 victory. Cal Wright finished the game with 37 points and Anders Prater led the Jaguars with 27. I asked Coach Kreft about his thoughts on the game and he said, "This was a big win for us. Mora played a heck of a game, especially Cal Wright. We had a tough time defending him, They also did a very good job of defending our posts and denying Travis Visser. The good thing about our team this season is that we have other guys that can step up. Anders Prater played a very good game. When Mora keyed on stopping our posts, he got some open looks at 3's and some good drives to the hoop."
Tuesday night Hinckley-Finlayson hosted the Ogilvie Lions. The Jaguars dominated the entire game, going into the half up 63-18. The young Ogilvie team had no answer for the Jaguars pressure defense. The Jaguars played great team basketball, leading to 29 total assists and 11 different players scoring. Coach Kreft talked about the good teamwork the Jags showed saying, "This was the type of game where everybody got some playing time, and we got to work on a few things that we needed to get better at. Our guys came out reading to play and jumped on them immediately. We did an excellent job of sharing the ball - we had 11 different players score and 5 of them scored in double digits. All in all, it was a great team effort." The Jaguars ended their snow week with a home game against Braham. The Jaguars got in foul trouble and found themselves relying on the bench early. Guards Kyle Taggart and Reuben Gibbs came up big contributing seven assists and only two turnovers. The Jaguars had a very successful night in the paint as well dominating the Bombers inside. Coach Kreft talked about the bench contributions and the post play saying,"Overall, we played a very good game offensively. We knew they struggled to defend in the post, and our guys did a nice job getting the ball to our posts in spots where they could be successful. As much as they struggled to defend us, we struggled on the defensive end too. Both teams shot a ton of free throws. We had some guys in foul trouble, and our bench came in and played really well. Cedric, Reuben, Kyle, and Lavone all gave us really good minutes." When Braham picked up a few fouls of their own the Jaguars sunk their free throws. The Jags finished the game up 82-65.
