This week, the students enrolled in Civics at HFHS with Mr. Kreger heard from two guest speakers at the high school. On Monday, February 5th, the 10th Judicial Circuit Court Judge Heather Wynn made her appearance at Hinckley-Finlayson. On Tuesday, Minnesota House of Representative Member from District 11B, Jason Rarick took the stage explaining his role in the Minnesota State Legislative Branch. Judge Wynn talked to the students about her role in the judicial court system and law related topics. She explained issues of many kinds, from traffic laws to the Bill of Rights. One main thing Representative Rarick discussed was the process of a bill becoming a law. This is a topic the civics students recently spent a lot of time on, the students even made a poster depicting the process. Rarick’s presentation also included the bills that he authored and the significance of staying involved and civically active. The students thought it was neat that Representative Rarick maintained a “normal” life alongside his highly demanding job. Mr. Kreger thought the speakers did a wonderful job explaining their part in the government and the issues that affect the lives of the students. Kreger said, “We will definitely invite the speakers back again next year to visit with the future Civics students”.
