The Hinckley Finlayson jaguar cross country team went the distance this year claiming five all-conference awards. The junior high girls, Madison Jackson, Killeen Prater and Emily Klar, proved that hard work pays off as they took first as a team at the conference meet held in Pine City. In addition, the varsity girls team, consisting of Raechel Painovich, Audrey Storlie, Hallie Rootkie, Sophie Hodena and Ava Anderson, took second. “Most people who join cross country are instantly hooked,” said head coach Tom Linden. This year the cross country team had the most runners since 2004. Audrey Storlie said, “ being on the cross country team was absolutely amazing, I got in shape and made amazing friends." Though the team works hard they focus on making their season enjoyable by playing games and going on adventure runs. When asked for his perspective on why students should consider being a part of the team, coach Linden said, “running is not easy for everyone, but with the right attitude and commitment, our sport can be accomplished by just about anyone.” In the aftermath of a successful season, the Jaguars are looking forward to next year. Coach Linden predicts that the cross country team, who didn't lose a single runner to graduation, will come back even stronger next year. One of the goals the team has set includes winning the girls varsity conference title next season. Coach Linden also hopes to see the varsity boys’ team in the running for a conference title. The entire team hopes to reach new personal bests and have another adventurous season. Lastly, the team is looking forward to hosting their very own home meet at Grand National Golf Course next season.
