Lisa Garcia Munoz is one of Hinckley-Finlayson High Schools foreign exchange students this year. Lisa -age 15- is from Mexico and has been in America for five months. This week we sat down with Lisa and asked her about her experience in America. Q: What is your favorite food from America? A: I like Chicken Nuggets and French Fries Q: What Is your favorite food from Mexico? A: Tacos, Obviously Q: What made you want to become a foreign exchange student? A: My father was a foreign exchange student and came to America, my brother was a foreign exchange student too who also came to America, so it was kind of my turn next. I also wanted to learn about American culture and how to speak English. Q: What is the biggest difference between your hometown and Hinckley? A: My hometown was very big, like a big city where here it is very small and stuff is farther apart. Q: What has been the hardest part of living America? A: The meal times are very different, for instance in Mexico we eat breakfast around the same time but our lunch is like your dinner and our dinner is a light snack in the evening. I also miss my family very much. The weather is so much colder than Mexico. Another thing is that i miss playing tennis with my friends. Q: Can you give us a brief description of your school? A: At my school the lockers and entrance are outside of the school, it is more like we have walls but no ceilings except for one main building with all of our classrooms. Even our lunch is outside. Q: Do you do any activities or sports in Mexico? A: Yes I love tennis, I play it year round and at a club where it is very expensive and time consuming. In the off season (if i have an off season) I play Volleyball. Q: What is the weirdest thing that you've seen/done in America? A: The weirdest thing I’ve ever done in America would have to be Spirit days when we dress up in the school colors and wear crazy clothing for the different dress up days. Q: Is school easier or harder in America? A: School is much easier in America because in Mexico our classes are picked for us so we don’t get to choose any extracurricular activities or take study halls. Q: Have you or will you try any sports or activities? A: I tried cheerleading because it is part of the American culture and it seemed fun. But what I am most excited for is Softball. I have heard great things about Softball, although cheerleading and volleyball were fun they're not as extreme as the sports in Mexico or as hard.
