10/11/2019 0 Comments Football Check inBy Kenidy Cessna As the HFHS Football team’s season is coming to an end they have shown their true colors throughout the year. They have won some and lost some, currently they are sitting at a 3-3 record that will change tonight in Braham at 7 p.m. The team is shooting to be a 4th seed for sections and right now they are trying to hold their ground and keep building up from their current fourth place spot. Winning the next two games of their regular season would help immensely and they are confident if those go in their favor it will be no problem placing in the top four. The football program has never made it as far as state but in the last few seasons they have made it to section finals. Coach Hopkins believes playing a good end of the season is crucial to their seed placement.
I’m sure you’ve heard but our home field has been undergoing some fixes this season, all of the home games have been hosted at East Central. This season the team was given four home games, the only game played at the Berquist Field was the homecoming game. The work done on the field will be great for years to come. Not having a home field for three games has taken a toll on the teams practice plans add they’ve had to think through their drills and limit their equipment. Tonight is the second to last game of the season the team plays at 7 p.m. in Braham. Head out and support the team!

By: Raechel Painovich This past Monday, a few Hinckley students along with 19 foreign exchange students from Germany traveled to Duluth to explore the city and Lake Superior. Their were 4 girls and 15 boys from Germany that are staying in Mora and Pine City for 2 weeks. Caleb Olson, Brian Kordiak, Zack Watrin, Kyle Wagenius, Sam Goulet, Sophie Hodena, Killeen Prater, Emily Bradshaw, Raechel Painovich, Carlee Stelter, Luke Knudson, and Isaiah Brindamour were the students that attended the field trip. Mrs. Hodena the German teacher was the leader of this trip and the one who planned the events.
They all got on the bus in Hinckley at 8:30 and from there they headed to Canal Park to walk the board walk and visit the assortment of shops. Many foreign exchange students walked around with students from America because they were very confused on where to go. After Canal Park, they headed to Miller Hill Mall to shop around for awhile and to get something to eat. Many German students commented on how small our mall was compared to their mall. They were at the mall for an hour and a half and ten ended their field trip by hiking around at Jay Cooke State Park. They went to see the swing bridge at the state park and hiked a few trails near the river. They ended up leaving almost an hour later than planned but Mrs. Hodena said it was worth it. Overall this field trip was great experience for the foreign exchange students and a great way for the Hinckley kids to interact with kids from Germany. Students from Hinckley have mentioned that the German kids were really fun to hang out with, but sometimes hard to communicate with. The trip to Duluth was a great success and a very fun adventure for both the foreign exchange students and the Hinckley students. 10/2/2019 1 Comment Canoe Trip ArticleBy: Raechel Painovich
The yearly canoe trip was taken last Wednesday 9/25, where a total of 20 students went to the St. Croix river and canoed down the river. Mr. Grimm’s advanced phy ed class had taken the day off to spend their school day out in nature. The weather was perfect for canoing at around 60-70 degrees. They started out on the Namekogan River northeast of Danbury, WI, and finished at Riverside Landing on the St. Croix River, just north of Danbury. It was a 15 mile canoe trip that was accomplished in just over 5 hours. Mr. Grimm had said that the canoe trip was great for “getting the students out on the river and giving some of them their first canoeing experience.” All of the kids left school at 8:15 am and got to Pardun's Canoe Rental in Danbury at 9am. They loaded the canoes and they brought us up the river to our starting point. They were all on the river in their canoes by 10:00am and got to the final destination at 3:00pm. So the total time on the river was 5 hours. Many students had commented on what a great experience the trip was and how much fun it was. Throughout the trip they paddled down the river, stopped for lunch along the way and grilled some hotdogs and brats, then continued down the river to their final destination. They battled some rapids and fast currents, but some students were able to see a black bear and bald eagles. All around the students that went on the canoe trip really enjoyed the atmosphere and being able to spend the day outside. Many students commented that their favorite part about the trip was that they got to see fireworks. Mr. Grimm also enjoyed bringing the students canoeing as for some of them it was their first time. To conclude, the canoe trip was a wonderful experience for many students. |
