The HFHS Girls Varsity will be kicking off their season with a scrimmage against Grantsburg tonight at 4 pm in the big gym. The girls began practice on Monday November 12th and have been prepping to play from that first day of practice. The scrimmage is coming after only four days of practice but Head Coach Keith Linzmeier doesn’t think the lack of practice will inhibit the team, he talked about how they have 11 returning Varsity players and “Experience goes a long ways when it comes to the different things we will see from other teams and how we handle it” The returning lady Jags are coming into the season with some big goals, namely to finish in the top half of the Great River Conference, and getting a home game in the first round of playoffs. The girls have long season ahead of them and some tough competition along the way, including Rush City and Pine City who they will have to see twice in conference play. Coach Linzmeier is well aware of the obstacles they need to surpass this season to reach their goals, and to reach these goals he said they are stressing, “effort, attitude, teamwork” Every day at practice. Tonight when they play Grantsburg, the girls are hoping to use their team quickness and experience to their advantage, something coach Linzmeier said they hope to utilize in every game of the season. More importantly than playoff rankings or conference seeding, Coach Linzmeier is focused on one thing above all this season, “To continue to improve each day.” If the girls can build off of the good basketball they played at the end of the season last year they will be on the road to a successful season.
