Santa came to Hinckley this week? Not quite yet, but his helpers did. In the boardroom of Hinckley Finlayson High School Santa’s helpers went work finding and wrapping gifts for the students. The tables were filled with toys, clothes and other gifts while the room was filled with holiday cheer. The smiles on the students faces as they entered the room grew even larger as the left with arms full of wrapped gifts for the special people in their lives. Santa’s Workshop is an opportunity for students to find gift for anyone around the holiday time at no cost. The items are donated by the staff and community members of Hinckley. Then, students in Minnesota Honor Society volunteer and help other students find and then wrap their presents. Santa’s Workshop is very important to many students at Hinckley Finlayson High School. One student who left with a stack of presents that barely made it through the doorway said, “Thank you guys! I am so thankful for this opportunity, my family are going to love these!” Another who left with one gift bag for their mother said, “I would never have been able to wrap the gifts this good, thank you so much!” It began on Monday and ran until Wednesday. On Monday, the tables were crowded with all sorts of gifts and were even overflowing onto the floor. However, by the time Wednesday rolled around, there were a few empty tables and the wrapping paper supply was dwindling. This year's selection must've been especially good, the best yet. However, success at Santa's Workshop is not measure in numbers, it is measured in the amount of students who leave with smiling faces and glowing hearts. When we asked MHS co-president Dylan Mans what he enjoyed about volunteering at Santa's Workshop he told us, "Learning how to wrap presents again, but also watching the kids be all excited for Christmas." This is what the holidays are all about, seeing smiles on faces and cheer in eyes. Thanks to all the staff and community member who donated items to Santa’s Workshop and thanks to all the MHS member who volunteered their time wrapping presents! See you again next year and Happy Holidays!
